FAQ

We don't expect everyone to be an expert on septic tanks, so we've put together a few frequently asked questions to help explain things more clearly.

Septic Tank Emptying – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. How often should I have my septic tank emptied?
Most septic tanks should be emptied every 12 months, but it can vary depending on tank size, household size, and usage. Commercial systems or large households may require more frequent servicing.
2. How do I know if my septic tank needs emptying?

Common signs include:

  • Slow draining sinks, toilets, or showers

  • Gurgling sounds from drains

  • Bad smells near the tank or soakaway area

  • Wet patches or pooling water around the drainage field
If you notice any of these, it’s time to book an emptying.

3. What happens during a septic tank emptying?

Our trained operators:

  1. Locate and access your tank

  2. Use a vacuum tanker to safely remove waste

  3. Check for any signs of damage or blockages

  4. Transport the waste to a licensed treatment facility for disposal

4. Do I need to be at home when you empty the tank?

Not necessarily — as long as we have clear access to the tank and any gates are unlocked. If you’re not home, we can leave a service note to confirm the job’s been completed.

5. How much does septic tank emptying cost?

6. What areas do you cover?

7. What should I do before you arrive?

Please ensure:

  • The tank lid is accessible (not covered by decking, gravel, or overgrown grass)

  • Any pets are safely inside

  • Vehicles are moved to provide access for the tanker

8. Is it safe and environmentally friendly?

Yes. We are fully licensed waste carriers, and all waste is transported to an Environment Agency-approved treatment site. We strictly follow all environmental regulations.

9. What’s the difference between a septic tank and a sewage treatment plant?

A septic tank separates solids and liquids but relies on natural drainage to filter waste.
A treatment plant actively treats waste using aeration, producing cleaner effluent that’s safer for the environment.
We can advise which system you have if you’re unsure.
